MODAL VERBS

Khi cần thể hiện sự lịch thiệp, các ý kiến hoặc các đề nghị và gợi ý, hoặc đơn giản chỉ là cho ai đó một lời khuyên thì các Modal Verb rất hữu ích.

• Can / could: possibility, ability – biểu thị khả năng

Ex: Of course I can swim (Hiển nhiên là Dr Duy có thể bơi!)

• May với ý nghĩa permission – biểu thị sự đồng ý

Ex: May I start now? Yes, you may. ( Tôi đồng ý cho bạn làm)

• May / Might: possibility – biểu thị khả năng

Ex:

I may go to the concert tonight. I am not sure

It’s never too late to be what you might have been.

• Should: advice, recommendation, suggestion – biểu thị lời khuyên, khuyến nghị hoặc sự gợi ý

Ex: You look unwell, you should see a doctor.

• Must: nessesary, obligation – biểu thị sự cần thiết

Ex: Drivers must obey the road rules

• Will/Shall và would/should

Ex:

• I promise I will return the book when I get to the library
• He told me he would not go out because he was studying
• They shall be sitting the itelts test next week
• The students knew they should sit the ielts test soon after the course.
